Dear Editor:
Renfrew County Council has expressed concerns re rumours of the banning of wood stoves
included within the Official Plan.
Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy suggests the stories are out of Horton and Whitewater township meetings. The two public meetings on the Official Plan held in Horton and Whitewater were audio recorded – there was no mention of banning of oil/wood stoves.
However, since the County is insistent on publicizing these concerns of rumours, thank you for making me aware and question why County Council has not defined the meaning of the “woodland designations” as well as other designations. Perhaps it would better serve their interests if they provided the public with full and complete definitions of the intent of these designations.
It’s interesting this “new” woodland designation from the province coincides with the Federal government’s promotion for new legislation under Clean Energy that states “we commit to significant national actions to reduce black carbon emissions (soot) in North America,” as quoted in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP’s Cheryl Gallant’s recent press release of August 2016 called “Cooling the Climate with your Wallet”.
That, County Council, is where the rumours about the banning of wood stoves, etc. come from.
It would appear these “rumors” show that the general public connected the dots of the real purpose of the “woodland designations” before County Council did, or at least before they were going to admit, anyway.
