WHITEWATER REGION — The Zion Line-Beachburg branch of the North Renfrew District Women’s Institute recently presented donations collected by members and friends to the Bernadette McCanna House.
Celebrating 120 years of Women’s Institute, the organization continues to strive to improve and empower women to become stronger and more educated on their rights. Skills in homemaking and child care are just two aspects in which we touch on constantly. Laws change, times and circumstances change, we all need to work together to make a difference.
The Bernadette McCann House mission is to provide safety, support and education for women and children and those who experience abuse, and to work for change that will end abuse. The home is the only place in Renfrew County for people to get help who suffer from violence and/or abuse, in whichever form that abuse comes in.
Public awareness and education are vital in order to make a change.
The home is involving new areas of service, with partners to help meet the needs for those living in the county who experience abuse. There are outreach programs for short-term, offering individual and group support.
Bernadette McCann House also has a crisis line for male victims of domestic violence.
For more information, please feel free to call the home’s 24-hour crisis line, 613-732-3131 or 1-800-267-4930 or the administration office, 613-732-7776.
