Mabel “Mae” Saar (nee Kruger) passed away on Thursday, April 23 at 97 years of age. Mabel Agusta Kruger was born in Sebastapol Township on July 27, 1922, the only daughter of Alex and Emily (Dearing) Kruger. In 1945, Mabel married Verner Scheer and they farmed on the homestead where they raised their young family until Verner passed away suddenly in 1963. Mabel married Ted Saar in 1972 and became a resident of Shady Nook. In retirement, Mabel and Ted took many travel adventures, exploring Canada from coast to coast, and venturing as far afield as Australia and Alaska. When closer to home, they were active in their church, were known to host a good card game, and enjoyed the nearby natural spots for fishing and camping. Mabel returned to live in Eganville in 2012, where she resided among old and new friends at Fairfields for the last part of her life. Mabel was well known for her contagious laugh, her strong work ethic, and her bright smile. Many gardens bloomed in her care, many friends were graced by her generosity, and many a sweet tooth benefited from her baking skills, be they customers at the old Lisk’s bakery, attendees at a church event, or family members gathered together to celebrate. Her warm and loving spirit will be missed by all. Mabel was predeceased by her three brothers Kenneth, Ellard and Harry, her grandson Christopher Seigel, her husband Ted Saar, her daughter Elaine Seigel, and her son Gerry Scheer. Mabel is survived by her daughter-in-law Suzanne Scheer and son-in-law Stephen Seigel, and her step-children Mike (Heather) Saar, Marlene Tippet, and Paula Saar (Phillip). Mabel was a dear Grannie to Laurie Seigel, Ben, Emily & Luke Scheer, Greg & Jeffrey Saar and Billy Joe Tippet, and Great-Grannie to Henry, Mabel, Nolan, Benjamin, Wesley, Audrey and Mila. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Gladys Kruger, Elaine Kruger, Louise Biederman, and Lillian Saar, her brother-in-law Vern Saar, and her many nieces and nephews. Professional services have been entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home in Eganville. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to donate in memory of Mabel may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Fairfields Eganville.
