It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Anne Mackey, who passed away September 25 at the age of 71 years. She was the beloved daughter of the late Nelson and Annie (Johnston) Hawkins of Lower Stafford, Pembroke, Ontario. Predeceased by her husband Douglas Mackey and her older brother Peter Hawkins. Anne attended school in Pembroke, then went to work for the Government in Ottawa where she met Douglas Mackey. They were married in St. Patrick’s Anglican Church, Lower Stafford on August 5, 1967. Their daughter Cindy Anne was born February 7, 1970. Anne worked in insurance in Ottawa and retired from Rhodes and Williams in 1990. In retirement she moved to Cobden, Ontario and purchased a three storey century home on Crawford Street, which she operated as a Bed and Breakfast. Anne was very talented with stained glass and decor and it became a beautiful home with stained glass windows, antique furnishings and art throughout. She was caring and loving and always prepared to help and support her family. Anne is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter Cindy Anne Mackey, Ottawa, her granddaughter Kaylin Anne Miller Burton, her dear friend and sister-in-law Lois (Peter) Hawkins, her nieces Lynn McKinnon (Shawn), Mary Lou Vance (Tom) and nephew Cole Hawkins (Miranda), as well as her eight great nieces and nephews who adored her. As we loved you, So we miss you, In our memory you are near, You will live forever in our hearts. Respecting Anne’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private memorial was held. If desired memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
