PEMBROKE – While the province-wide mask mandate for high-risk settings is set to expire June 11th, the Pembroke Regional Hospital will continue to require face coverings for patients, staff, volunteers, visitors, essential caregiver/care partners, and contractors/vendors.

“We rely on the safety measures we have in place to not only keep our community’s most vulnerable patients safe, but also to help to ensure that our staff and physicians stay healthy and are ready and able to provide the care and services our community needs,” said PRH President and CEO Pierre Noel.

Until a regional approach around the easing of some of the other safety measures such as screening has been developed, there will be no changes to current practice or policies, Mr. Noel said, adding that hospitals now have the authority to keep requirements in place to support health and safety in their environments despite the removal of provincial directives.

Continuing to follow masking and symptom screening in some form is an effective way for hospitals to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, while limiting the risk of transmission and outbreaks.

“As a result, hospitals, like ours, need to continue to maintain more stringent infection control measures. So, in the short time ahead, while we will see some easing of our policies around visitor screening and visitation on a regional basis, more fundamental safety measures like the wearing of masks in clinical settings will continue for some time,” Mr. Noel said.

For now, patients, visitors and essential caregivers/care partners arriving at PRH can still expect:

To wear a hospital-approved mask when entering any of our buildings. A mask will be provided.
To be screened for COVID-19 symptoms.
To be asked for proof of vaccination.
To ensure your hands are cleaned with sanitizer upon entering our buildings.
To abide by our visitor/essential caregiver/care partner policies and guidelines.

The hospital will continue to share and communicate changes as they become available.
