Alaina Matheson and her holstein make eye contact

WHITEWATER REGION (Beachburg) — The 161st edition of the Beachburg Fair was a success.

“There were over 9,000 people,” said Dave Mackay, second vice-president of the Beachbug Agricultural Society. “This is up from last year.”

He said there was close to 200 head in the beef show.

The front of each of the three 120-year-old barns were re-faced and repainted, Mr. Mackay said. More work will be done to the barns this fall, he added.

The demolition derby was a success, drawing in a lot of people, he said.

The Monster Truck and Motocross shows were two events the children really seemed to enjoy. The really young children enjoyed the Kidszone with the petting zoo, face painting, bouncy castles and other things for the children to try.

The children wore the ponies out, he said, adding, “The ponies were tired by the end of the weekend.”

While Sunday was slow, attendance was up more than 600 from last year, Mr. Mackay said. The Modified Truck and Tractor Pull was a big draw, he said.

Tim Schreader and his gang did a great job on the chicken barbecue while Neil Hawthorne did great with the pork tenderloin dinner, Mr. Mackay said.

While the fair was a success, it wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers, and not just the 20 on the board, he said, adding, there are too many volunteers to count, noting there are various committees required to make the fair a success.

He noted by 3 p.m. Monday, the fairgrounds were cleaned up, which wouldn’t happen as quickly as it did without the volunteers.
