Jennifer Gruntz presented to the Council on MPAC, a property assessment company dedicated to assessing Ontario p
“Every municipality uses our assessments to make informed decisions about their community, including distribution of property taxes.” she said. “We know that Ontario’s property tax systems generate over thirty billion dollars in tax revenue each year.”
She said they were “an independent not-for-profit corporation funded by Ontario municipalities, dedicated to assessing all the properties in Ontario.”
She said assessments occur every four years to determine property tax in relation to the house values and municipal services.
They also provide a property assessment database, ‘the I-cloud’.
“MPAC’s goal is to turn building permit requests into assessments.” Gruntz said. “The sooner we can turn the request into an assessment, the sooner they can be used to generate revenue.”
She also said that MPAC provides videos on Youtube and other resources to educate the public, as well as InTouch, their newsletter.
Councillor Moore asked when Whitewater is due for reassessment of property taxes due to COVID preventing the regular assessment, which Gruntz said that that would be determined by the Minister of Finance.
