Muskrat Atom Voyageurs compete at the Pembroke Stilver Stick

PEMBROKE–Muskrat Atom”Voyageurs returned home with a third place finish from the 30th Annual Terry O’Neill Pembroke Silver Stick tournament held on the weekend.
There were eight teams in the division — Muskrat, Tweed Hawks, Mariposa Lightning, Deep River Knights, Center Hastings Grizzlies, Douro Dukes, Norwood Hornets, and Valley Storm.
Taking to the ice for the Voyageurs line up was Hunter Cobus (goalie), Evan Varvaresos, Wyatt Davis, Ethan Timm, Jarrett Stewart, Jacob Scheuneman, Ty Moore, Jesse Kelly, Owen Duff, Chase Peck, Brendan Lynch, Chase Congdon, Ben Beland and bench staff, coach Chris Moore, assistant coach Tim Lynch, trainer Dan Cobus, and manager Terri Dombroskie.
The Voyageurs faced the Deep River Knights as the first opponents of the tourney. Jarrett Stewart, with a quick shot, scored on Deep River’s netminder Carsen Doiron 0.45 seconds in the first period with Ethan Timm taking a point for a helper on the goal. Voyageurs with the lead and Timm scores to take a 2-goal lead with help from Wyatt Davis at 7:45. Ben Ben Beland took 2 points at 8:39 with Wyatt Davis taking a point for the assist.
Going into 2nd period, Voyageurs are leading 3-0. Deep River put a goal on the scoreboard with 1:23 into the period, then again at 3:30. Chase Peck scored at 7:34 with Stewart assisting Deep River with another goal at 8:05.
The Voyageurs headed into the 3rd period up by one. Late in the 3rd the fate was sealed for Deep River by a goal scored by Jacob Scheuneman and Beland on the assist, with a final score of 5-3 for Voyageurs. Hunter Cobus showed a solid game between the pipes.
Second game of the tournament had the Voyageurs facing the Mariposa Lightning from Northern Ontario. At 2:23 Beland scored with Chase Congdon picking up the helper. Wyatt Davis, scored unassisted for 2 points, then Mariposa answered the goals with one of their own. During the 2nd period with a 2-1 lead for the Voyageurs, Ty Moore scored and was assisted by Scheuneman, 6:24 Brendan Lynch takes a shot and scores with Davis grabbing the assist on the play. Heading into the 3rd with a 4-1 lead, the Voyageurs battled with two goals scored by Mariposa to keep the lead. At 8:22 Owen Duff scores to take the game to a 5-3 victory. Moore and Peck assisted on the goal.
Sitting at a record of 2-0-0, the Muskrats proceed to take on the Tweed Hawks.
The first period saw no scoring. Going into the 2nd period with a 0-0 score the Hawks came out with a vengeance, scoring 3 goals. Heading into the 3rd period, Moore opened up the scoring for the Voyageurs with Congdon at his side to get the helper on the goal at 1:25. The Hawks quickly answered the goal at 1:54. With great determination, Davis scores at 9:40 with Peck assisting, but Muskrat fell short with a 4-2 loss to the Hawks.
Fourth game of the tournament was against the Center Hastings Grizzles.
They were a force to be reckoned with. It was a 3-0 lead for Grizzlies going into the 2nd, and a couple more were added before Beland scored unassisted for the Voyageurs.
The Muskrat Voyageurs were defeated, but had an impressive showing with 2 wins and 2 losses for the tournament and tied for 3rd place. Center Hastings Grizzlies were crowned the Atom “C” Tournament finalists after beating the Tweed Hawks 7-4.
