The military taught me to lead, follow or get out of the way. When the Cobden Sun was in operation, I was a faithful subscriber for decades. When it folded, and no one stepped forward, I contacted Connie and the rest is history. We are almost a year old and boast more than 1,400 online subscribers and 100 distributed hard copies. We took a bold step this week by sending our subscribers an email with the heading and first sentence of each article.
I did it for two reasons. First, it’s easy for the readers to quickly scan (and click) what interests them. Secondly, to hopefully raise advertising revenues to expand the paper.
Currently, Connie subsidizes the paper by working much more than her salary and I subsidize the finances to the low five figures yearly. Whitewater Region has been good to me and as long as I can afford it, I want to give back.
I am a strong believer in growth and prosperity and our region abounds in potential. A larger, more vibrant newspaper will help fuel that growth. I hope you will welcome the new change and consider advertising, whether it’s your business or farm, or just a congratulations message or announcement. All revenues will go growing our paper and we will all benefit. Thank you.
