Elaine Hennessy
Greetings from the Women’s Institute for the District of North Renfrew.
The following branch is reporting on their meeting and activities for the month of Oct. 2021.
Greenwood: The members met for their October meeting with the President Sheila Kenny presiding. Several ladies wore different hats and/or a Halloween costume.
The Institute Ode was repeated followed by The Mary Stewart Collect.
The Secretary Kathy Bennett read the minutes from the previous meeting.
Roll Call was “Name your favorite candy or favorite Halloween costume that you wore when you were a kid”. The Treasurer Gail Fletcher gave her report.
Carole Whitmore suggested we give Tinus de Haan $100.00 for providing the barrels and the water for the Greenwood Memory Garden.
Sheila Kenny asked members to bring their cut out material for the Time for Girls Project to the next meeting.
Bev Smith suggested that rather than having a fundraiser, that each member contribute $20.00 in order that the branch could help out some organizations, or use the money for other expenses. A motion was passed that members would donate $20.00 each.
Charlotte Cotnam-Isea advised that next year the Memory Garden be downsized as members felt it was getting to be a challenge looking after all the flower beds. A smaller garden and one large one will be kept. Two other flower beds will be mulched and shrubs be put in instead of flowers in order to cut down on weeding and watering.
A Work Bee will be held next Spring at the garden.
Iris Biggs suggested that one or two members be given a Life Membership in the coming months as several ladies have been members since the branch formed in 1985. Elaine Hennessy was given a Life Membership pin and certificate at the last meeting.
Jane Haley passed out sheets of questions for a Halloween Quiz. Members worked in teams of two. The winners each received an African Violet plant. Susan de Haan won the door prize.
Following the Institute Grace, refreshments were provided by the convenors Kathy Bennet and Jane Haley. Jane also passed out bags of candy.
