Climate change has been in the news a great deal recently. Prime Minister Trudeau has just re-named a Cabinet portfolio to “Environment and Climate Change”, recognizing that Canadians expect the issue to be addressed. At the end of November, he is heading to Paris for the UN Climate Change Conference with that new Cabinet Minister and he has invited provincial and territorial premiers as well as opposition leaders to accompany them.
Leading up to Paris, there is an opportunity to learn more about climate change. On November 19, Renfrew’s O’Brien Theatre is showing the new film ‘This Changes Everything’ directed by Avi Lewis. It is based on Naomi Klein’s best selling book This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate and Ms. Klein narrates the film. The world premiere was at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and, like the book, it received rave reviews. This is not a doom and gloom movie; it offers solutions and hope for the future. Ms. Klein offers the idea that the greatest crisis we have ever faced may, in fact, offer us the opportunity to create a better world.
The O’Brien Theatre is generously providing the theatre facility to a local organization, Pipeline Awareness Renfrew County, which is sponsoring this event. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:30. Admission is $10. A brief moderated discussion will follow. The O’Brien Theatre is located at 334 Raglan St. S. in Renfrew.
