WESTMEATH — The Ontario Seniors Game Association is a provincial organization whose goal is to provide older adults (55+) with an opportunity to increase their social interaction, and increase physical and mental well-being by providing opportunities to participate in recreational and sporting activities.
The cycling event was held in Westmeath this year, as it has been in the past, noted Sheila Perras, one of the organizers. The community recreation hall provides the riders with a place to park, washroom and change facilities, as well as water bottle filling stations.
It was another great ride this year, and much better weather. It was a balmy 10C, a little breezy, but most importantly, dry roads, for the Monday, May 15 event, she said.
There were nine participants competing for medals in the 10km timed race, and the 5km prediction event.
Summary of results:
Prediction 5km: Phil Cottrell of La Passe predicted 16 minutes and finished in 14:56, for a net time of 1:04.
Timed 10km:
Val Hinsperger, 20:26; Maryanne Wendorf, 23:15; Pamela Lemay, 24:27; Cheryl Spotswood, 24:46; Mary Garfat, 25:03; Keith Oattes, 19:26; Mike Wendorff, 20:47 and Ralph Chown, 24:20
A big thanks to all the volunteers who helped out: Wendy and Jay Orcutt, Pricilla, Emily and Donald Garfat, Pierette Cottrell and Randy Fletcher.
“A big thank you to all who participated, it was great fun, and I look forward to next year’s ride,” said Ms. Perras.
