BELLEVILLE — It was a weekend of highs and lows for the Ottawa Valley Thunder PeeWee team at the 42nd Annual Belleville Bearcats tournament held in early January in Belleville, Ontario.
The team of 16 11- and 12-year-old girls suffered a blow when their only goalie, Ashlyn Kirkham, broke her wrist on Friday, at the outset of the tournament. Second year player Arianna Robinson volunteered to take on the goalie position, one she has never played before.
The girls were motivated by their bad luck and came together as a team to win the tournament on Sunday afternoon, with a 3-0 victory over the second-place team. The team is coached by Chris Pleau, Richard Dufour and Brady Zadow.
Ottawa Valley Thunder (PeeWee, Bantam, Midget) are competitive female hockey teams representing Renfrew County in the Ottawa District Women’s Hockey Association.
