COBDEN — This weekend proved to be busy for Muskrat Minor Hockey Association with Cobden Minor Hockey Association hosting its 2014 Cobden Cobra’s Atom house league tournament on Saturday and Muskrat Voyageurs Rep tourney on Sunday. There were 14 teams combined from both days.
Smells were bountiful in the air from the kitchen of wonderful homemade meals, from beef on a bun to homemade desserts. Both days were filled with smiles from the many volunteers who spent endless hours preparing for the events and players playing for their title of Home Town Team Champions.
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and siblings lined the bleachers and filled the windows from the arena hall upstairs, loudly and proudly cheering on their favourite teams and players.
Children were playing the sport they love, for the game of hockey, the chance of scoring or passing the puck to beat the netminder or a goalie making that memorable save.
Participating in the Cobden house tourney were Renfrew Atom Team #1, Nepean Knights, Pontiac Lions, Pembroke Ninjas, Pembroke Ice Kings, Beachburg Bulls, CTC Renfrew.
Cobden Cobras had a vigilant effort but lost to the Pontiac Lions 8-1 in the “A” final. The “B” final was between Renfrew Atom team # 1 and Nepean Knights, with the Knights earning the win 4-3.
Teams participating in the Muskrat Voyageur Tourney were Kanata Blazers, Petawawa Patriots, Tri City Griffins, Belleville Bulls and Valley Storm. ‘A’ final saw Kanata Blazers defeat the Petawawa Patriots; the Muskrat Voyageurs fall to the Tri City Griffins in the ‘B’ final and the Valley Storm trumping the Belleville Bulls in the ‘C’ final.
