WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — At the Council meeting for the Township of Whitewater Region last night, the Landfill Operator position was discussed.
It is presently vacant and in order to ensure the continued maintenance of the landfill site, it requires the position to be filled.
A motion was passed to organize the two full time positions for the landfill site, into one full time and two part time positions.
The Landfill/Facilities Operator is full time and paid for 40 hours of work per week. Landfill Site Attendants would both be part time and consist of 13 hours per week.
According to Janet Collins, Director of Public Works, the applicants would need to be available on Wednesdays and applicants who are not, will be put in the reserve pile.
The landfill site is open for six hours on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. , and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for a total of 12 hours. It is said the attendants will work 13 hours each per week to provide for the opening and closing of the site.
The Township will save 14 hours per week, adding up to a total of $40,610.18 in savings, by switching the full time position into two part time positions.
