PEMBROKE – The Trillium Gift of Life Network has presented the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) with a hospital achievement award for its dedication to organ and tissue donation in Ontario.
PRH was presented with the Provincial Routine Notification Rate Award for maintaining a 100 percent routine notification rate throughout 2015/2016. Routine notification is the rate at which hospitals notify Trillium Gift of Life Network when a patient has died and there may be potential for organ and/or tissue donation.
“PRH recognizes the potential and therapeutic value to recipients and bereaved families who give consent to organ and tissue donation and its place as an integral part of quality end-of-life care,” said Francois Lemaire, Vice-President of Patient Services – Acute Care, and Chief Nursing Executive, as well as the local Executive Lead for Trillium Gift of Life.
“Our team and our staff believe in organ and tissue donation,” he said. “Our results demonstrate our engagement by providing to our patients and families the option of donation.”
Ronnie Gavsie, President and CEO, Trillium Gift of Life Network, said, “Every day we work hard to save lives through organ donation and transplantation, but this is only made possible because of our committed hospital partners. Together we want to ensure all families have the information they need and the opportunity to make a life-saving choice.”
There are 1,500 people in Ontario waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and every three days someone dies waiting. Register your consent for organ and tissue donation at www.BeADonor.ca and talk to your family about your wishes.

Quick facts:
•Donation and transplant statistics are available by hospital: www.giftoflife.on.ca/en/publicreporting.htm
•One donor can save eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 more through the gift of tissue.
•Everyone is a potential organ and tissue donor. To date, the oldest Canadian organ donor was 92 and the oldest tissue donor was 100.
