WHITEWATER REGION — Two new employees will join the staff at the Township of Whitewater Region, both coming from the Town of Renfrew.
Ivan Burton and Gerry McIntyre both work for Renfrew. Mr. Burton is a planner and Mr. McIntyre works at the Ma-Te-Way Centre.
On Wednesday, March 20, Mr. Burton becomes the planner of Whitewater Region.
Mr. McIntyre, along with Beachburg resident Al Griffiths, have been hired as arena park operators 3. Mr. Griffith is a current employee of the township as an operator 2 and has already transitioned to his new position. Mr. McIntyre starts work on Monday, March 4.
During the Feb. 20 council meeting, Councillor Charlene Jackson announced Mr. Burton’s arrival. He is currently a planner with Renfrew, a position he’s held since 2013. Previous to that he was with the City of Clarence/Rockland from 2009 to 2013.
Mr. Burton has his designation of MCIP (Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners) and RPP (Registered Professional Planner) as well as a Bachelor arts with a major in geography, she continued. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. He is also a graduate of the Municipal Administrative Program provided by the Association of Municipal Mangers and Clerk Treasurers of Ontario.
Mr. Burton was also a member of the Recreational Advisory Committee for Whitewater Region during the last council term, Coun. Jackson said.
“He is looking forward to joining our team,” she said.
The interview panel members were Mayor Mike Moore, Reeve Cathy Regier, Coun. Jackson and Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay.
“We were very impressed with Ivan’s knowledge, experience and approach,” Coun. Jackson said, adding, “He’ll be a great asset to our team and will be a great fit to our team.”
Councillor Neil Nicholson also advised council he had some good news to share. The two candidate positions for arena park operator 3 have been filled, both by experienced people.
Mr. Griffith, a resident of Beachburg, has previous arena experience and worked with the previous rec association from 2010 to 2017. He has also held arena park operator 1 and 2 positions within the township since 2017.
“We have a great breadth of experience coming to help us in this capacity,” Coun. Nicholson said of Mr. Griffith.
Mr. McIntyre, a resident of Cobden, has 17 years of ice and arena operation experience, including 15 years at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden.
“There is a combination of 26 years of arena experience between the two candidates,” Coun. Nicholson said, adding, “We’re pleased to welcome them to our team.”
