In Whitewater Region, 2016 is starting off with a bang. On January 20th two separate proposals to purchase land in the Whitewater Industrial Park came to the Council meeting and both were conditionally accepted.

The first proposal was received on Jan 6th from Reuben Snyder of Snyder Equipment Services. He will require a 10,000 square foot building on a four-acre lot to accommodate his growing heavy equipment service business. Snyder’s Equipment Services is a heavy equipment repair facility that has fully equipped mobile service trucks to repair equipment and engines on site.

The second proposal was received Jan. 8th from Gilles Melanson. This property would involve two projects. Kastle Keepings will build and manage two 5000 square foot multi-unit commercial buildings to accommodate up to 10 small commercial businesses. The first of the 2 buildings is planned for early spring. Mr. Melanson is designing the facility to meet the needs of businesses such as contractors, electricians, plumbers, welders, manufacturers and warehousing. There are few spaces like this offered elsewhere in Renfrew County, so the first units are already spoken for. The units would offer economical rent and are currently zoned for a multitude of uses:

The second project is the Kartopia Go Cart Track. The condition of this sale is that a zoning amendment is approved to add “go cart track” as a permitted use to the GM (general industrial) zoning.

The activity started five months ago when the township erected a large billboard to promote the new Cogeco fibre optic broadband installation. Three months ago, council set the price for the park at $8000 per acre and before the new sign with this price was erected, calls started coming in.

“When you have a close look at the benefits of this park and then you look at the low land costs and taxes for the properties here, there is no surprise that business owners are so interested in this park.” “The business owners in the park are a pleasure to work with and they are all behind the recent efforts to attract new businesses.”

There are still three parcels of municipal land available fronting on Industrial Road and Cemetery Road for a total of 32 acres of municipal land remain. Contact Andrew Kenny [email protected] for details. At least two private businesses in the industrial park have over 15 acres of land available as well. All properties have access to new fibre optic broadband, natural gas and 3 phase power.
