The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region held their regular Council Meeting on March 16 at 4:49pm, held at the Municipal Hall in Cobden.
The Meeting was streamed live to Youtube and a copy of the video remains uploaded at the Whitewater Official Youtube channel.
The meeting covered the results of the Floodwater Assessment, zoning bylaws, and mandatory firefighter training changes.
Councillors Dave Mackay and Chris Olmstead were not in attendance.

Announcements
Councillor Neil Nicholson announced a St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the Westmeath Hall on Friday, March 18 at 4pm, which required no online registration, though the option was available to order through the WDRA online.
Councillor Nicholson said that there would be a St. Patricks Day function in Westmeath, On Friday March 18th at the Westmeath Hall and preorder was available at [email protected], but not necessary, and dine-in or takeout was available.
He also said that there were two Seniors Home Support and Active Living activities, one at Haley United Church Hall on March 25th, and the second one on March 29 at the Cobden Anglican Church Hall. Bnoth required registration through their pilot, with “more information on the Facebook page.
Mayor Moore announced that on the behalf of the Robbie Dean Centre, that several individuals were nominated and would receive tickets for the One Good Reason Concert with Sean McCann of Great Big Sea, at Festival Hall in Pembroke.
“The nominees Beth and Peter Etier for their continued efforts in Westmeath; Bonnie Helferty, for her ongoing efforts to support Cobden Main Street and the Food bank; Rob McKenszie for helping out a Queen’s Line farmer friend battling cancer during sowing season to get the crops in; Ted Richardson, for spreading joy of music and being part Music in the Park; Harold Gilcrist for helping residents with snow removal and his donation of beef to a family with new twin babies; Joan and Shane Curry for support of local food initiatives including Taste of the Valley and Farmer’s Market.”
Notices of Motion
Councillor McLaughlin asked if there could be a report brought back on the financial impact on the landfill scales, and where it sits in relation to last year, and whether or not they could look into the removal of the ashes.
Cleroux said that they were creating a waste management by-law to address the removal of the ashes, but that they could present all three items as part of a report at the next council meeting.
Correspondence
Correspondence was read and passed.
“Whatever the County is doing, that’s what we’ll do.” Mayor Moore said, in regards to the correspondence from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories proposal for a near surface disposal facility.
By-laws were approved as amended, with the exception of the Council Renumeration by-law, which would come back next session.
