WHITEWATER REGION (Westmeath) — Born Lucille Julia Gervais, she grew up in Westmeath where she was a dedicated pupil. After pursuing her post-secondary education, Lucille returned to Westmeath and began a dedicated and passionate career as a teacher.
Lucille obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Ottawa and obtained her two Master’s Degrees, one in Curriculum Development and the other in Education Administration, from Queen’s University in Kingston. She pursued Doctoral Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. After completing the necessary qualifications, Lucille was appointed Principal at Pinecrest Elementary School at CFB Petawawa. After 37 years in education, Lucille retired and remained settled in Westmeath.
Lucille married her hometown boy, Leo Dupuis, on July 14, 1954 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Westmeath and became Mrs. Lucille Julia Dupuis. They were a vibrant and cherished couple, especially by their four children. As a widow, Lucille enjoyed her nine grandchildren and pursued a variety of exciting adventures during her retirement years.
Lucille’s devotion to God was realized as a young girl, as she observed her mother, Alma’s, immense devotion to the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). As an adult, Lucille followed in her mother’s footsteps. Lucille served in many capacities for the CWL at parish level and as Parish President for several terms. She spoke highly and fondly of the wonderful group of women whom she worked alongside.
Through her work with the CWL, and as an active member of Our Lady of Grace, Lucille experienced friendship and grew to have a deeper respect and love for both her faith and the league. During her terms as President, Lucille was blessed to participate in world missions and senior activities, assist with general needs for her parish and deepen her Catholic education, alongside her sisters. Lucille was immensely proud of her contributions and loved assisting with the annual Parish Supper and the Victorian Tea.
Lucille spent her leisure hours at the sewing machine and, during the summer months, could be found teaching sewing classes to young children. Lucille and her students delighted in presenting new wardrobes in their fashion show.
Our family feels honoured and privileged to have received the gift of Lucille for the 86 years we had her. Her love was unconditional, her heart was golden, her laugh was infectious, her faith was unshakable, and her determination was unstoppable. We find comfort knowing she is nestled in God’s loving arms with her late husband, son, parents, siblings and friends by her side.
