RENFREW COUNTY: Team Renfrew County, which consisted of the grand prize winners from the Renfrew County Regional Science Fair, returned home on the Victoria Day long weekend from the 2023 Canada-Wide Science Fair, held in Edmonton, Alberta from May 13 to 20.

Team Renfrew County won two awards at the highly competitive fair, with both Maggie Alexander from Valour School in Petawawa and Mark Wendland from Mackenzie Community School in Deep River winning bronze medals. Rounding out the team was Logan Lynde and Jordyn Scantland Proulx from Valour School.

“I’m very proud of our team. Not only did they demonstrate the bright future for Canada’s youth with their incredible projects, they also represented the region with utmost class and positive attitudes.” said Aidan Leach, the Regional Fair Coordinator of the Renfrew County Regional Science Fair, who accompanied the students to the fair.

The CWSF is Canada’s only national science fair, showcasing the projects of 398 young finalists. It is the culminating event of 98 regional science fairs and over 16,000 participating schools across the country.

The Renfrew County Regional Science Fair would like to thank all of its sponsors, in particular Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, the grand prize sponsor that makes it possible for RCRSF students to attend the Canada Wide Science Fair.

The Renfrew County Regional Science Fair is held every April and is open to all Renfrew County students from Grade 5 to 12. No prior entry into a school fair is required and it is never too early to start your project. Visit www.youthscience.ca/renfrew-county/ for details.
