The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 209 calls for service during the past week.

Break, Enter and Theft

Officers are investigating a break and enter to a home on Smolkin Street in Arnprior on January 10. Sometime during the week previous to the discovery, someone forced open a basement window at the vacant residence. The home was rummaged through, and some items were stacked up near the unlocked door as if the thief was planning to return. It is not known if anything was stolen. Provincial Constable Colleen McGrath is investigating.

A cottage on Quail Trail in the Township of Greater Madawaska was found with the front door open on January 15. It is not known if anything was stolen. There was a fresh snowmobile track leading to the cottage. Provincial Constable Tina Hunt is continuing to investigate.

Stolen Vehicle

A vehicle stolen in Renfrew overnight on January 12 was recovered the next day in Brighton, Ont. A 2009 Hyundai Elantra was stolen from York Street in Renfrew between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. The vehicle was unlocked and the keys were inside the vehicle. OPP officers responded to a suspicious vehicle report in Brighton on January 13 and recovered the stolen vehicle and arrested a male.

A stolen vehicle was also recovered in Renfrew on January 13. A 2005 Ford Escape was abandoned on school property at 41 Bolger Lane, Renfrew. This vehicle had been stolen in South Frontenac Township overnight on January 11-12. There is a suspect in the case and Provincial Constable Troy Dobbie is investigating.

Vehicle owners are strongly encouraged to remove keys from their vehicles and lock it or lose it.

Domestic Disputes

Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers responded to eight domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. No other criminal offences took place.

Thefts

A victim reported their credit card had been stolen on January 6. The theft was not discovered until January 9 and the credit card was cancelled. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable J.P. St. Cyr is investigating.

On January 9 a victim attended the Arnprior OPP to report a theft from a locker at the gym located at the Quality Inn on Madawaska Blvd in Arnprior. The victim reported a white under armour sweatshirt and a quantity of cash were stolen. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable Lisa Nicholas is investigating.

On January 12 Provincial Constable Mark O’Dacre investigated a theft from a residence in Renfrew. The victim reported items missing from the home, including a debit card, jewelry, cash and other personal items missing. The suspect was a friend of the victims who was invited into the home. The investigation is continuing.

Overnight on January 12 items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a private driveway on Raglan St S Renfrew. Several gift cards and items of clothing were stolen. Physical evidence was seized and Provincial Constable Sarah Turcotte is investigating.
