The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 266 calls for service during the past week.

Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. A charge of domestic mischief is pending against a male. No other criminal offences took place.

Impaired Drivers
Two drivers are facing criminal charges after choosing to operate a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol to an extent that impaired their ability to drive.
On Saturday, November 11 at approximately 1 a.m., PC Jason Golds stopped to assist a motorist on the side of Highway 17 near Kohlsmith Road with the vehicle’s 4-way flashers on. The motorist advised he had run out of gas. Further investigation revealed the male driver had been drinking and was arrested for impaired driving. A search of the vehicle revealed a white substance believed to be cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and ammunition. The male is currently on a 10-year court order prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Following breath tests at the detachment Christopher Roberts, 27, of Ottawa, was held for a bail hearing charged with impaired driving, driving over 80mgs, possession of ammunition while prohibited, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, driving while under suspension and driving without a currently validated permit.
On Saturday, November 11 at approximately 4:30 p.m., PC Julie McPeak stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 near Bruce Street after receiving information that the driver may have been impaired. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests at the detachment John Eady, 53, of Horton Township, was charged with driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, December 6.

Liquor Licence Act Charge and Warning
On Sunday, November 12, shortly before 10 p.m., PC Kevin Rebertz was patrolling the parking lots at Ma-te-way Park in Renfrew when he stopped to speak to four occupants of two vehicles parked in a secluded corner. The officer found open liquor, empty beer cans, full beer cans and drug paraphernalia. One 17-year-old youth claimed ownership of all items. He was charged under the LLA with being under 19 and having alcohol. The parents of all 4 youths were contacted and attended the scene to pick up their children. The other 3 youths were issued warnings.

Thefts
Thefts from vehicles parked at boat launches are continuing. One victim reported the tonneau cover ruined and the thief stole numerous articles including Musky lure/buck tail making materials, fishing supplies, camping supplies and hand tools from the truck bed. This incident occurred on Monday, October 9 but was reported to the OPP online on Wednesday, November 8. A second victim reported their vehicle damaged and entered on Wednesday, November 8 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Stolen property included two Transom supports, fishing net, K-bar knife, two electric knives, flash light, Eliminator battery booster, Survival suit, Axe, winter jacket, Rocky hunting boots, Drift socks (sea anchors). The Clay Bank boat launch and the White Lake boat launch were the locations in the above thefts.
A car wash money dispenser stolen in Arnprior on Sunday, September 24 has been recovered. The machine was stolen overnight from the TA Touchless Car Wash in Arnprior. It was found in a ditch along the Long Sault Parkway in South Stormont Township on Thursday, November 9. Police are continuing to investigate.
A light was stolen from a church property in Renfrew. On Saturday, November 11 an outdoor flood light that illuminates the church sign was discovered missing. The church is the Calvary Pentecostal Church on Wrangler Road in Renfrew.
A GPS and diagnostic reader were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Prince Avenue in Renfrew. The theft happened overnight Sunday, November 12.

Weapons Prohibition Breach Charge
On Friday, November 10 OPP officers executed a search of a residence with a search warrant. As a result of the investigation Daniel Thomson, 24, of Renfrew, was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition while prohibited. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, December 20. DC JP St Cyr led the investigation.

Stunt Driving
On Saturday, November 11 at approximately 9:45 p.m., PC Jason Golds stopped a vehicle for speeding more than 50km/hr above the posted speed limit on Highway 17 near Rox Siding Road. The male driver of the vehicle, Donald William King, 25, of Whitewater Region Township, was issued a summons for traffic court in Renfrew on Friday, January 19, 2018. The male’s driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
On Sunday, November 12 at approximately 4 p.m., PC Jason Golds was stopped on the side of Highway 60 near Plaunt Road when a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed passed him. He activated the radar and confirmed the vehicle was speeding, in excess of 50 km/hr above the posted limit. As a result, Matthew Jones, 17, of Greely, was charged with stunt driving, and failing to sign his vehicle registration in ink and issued a summons for traffic court in Renfrew on Friday, December 15. His driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
