RENFREW — The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 233 calls for service during the past week.
Human Trafficking
Following an investigation after a traffic stop one male is facing charges of human trafficking. On Tuesday, April 25 a vehicle was stopped on Highway 17 for a driving offence. After speaking with the driver and two passengers the officer arrested Jerry Aarestrup, 33 of Chateauguay Que. He was charged with human trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marihuana, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with 3 counts of sexual assault, 2 counts of mischief under $5,000, and 1 count each of forcible confinement, criminal harassment, uttering threats, domestic mischief and assault; one male was charged with forcible confinement, uttering threats and 3 counts of domestic mischief. No other criminal offences took place.
Break and Enter
Sometime overnight from Monda,y May 1 to Tuesday, May 2, someone cut the lock and forced open the gate at the Whitewater Region landfill site on Kohlsmith Road in White Water Region Township. Once on the site the thief forced open a door to the office and stole a laptop computer. Provincial Constable (PC) Sarah Darraugh is investigating.
Assault
Police are investigating after a male reported being assaulted at the Legion in Cobden on Saturday, May 6. A suspect was identified and interviewed. PC Mark Yarmel is continuing to speak to witnesses.
Thefts
A Sirius Satellite radio was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Monday, May 1. The vehicle was parked in a private driveway on Bonnechere Street in Renfrew at the time. There are no suspects.
Two bicycles were stolen from a property in Renfrew. Sometime in the overnight hours on Thursday night, May 4, unknown person(s) stole the two bikes from the bike racks on a camper trailer. Both bikes were Norco brand, one ladies style mountain bike, and a men’s Catmandu model. There are no suspects.
Impaired Drivers
On Saturday, April 29 at approximately 5:15 p.m., PC Denys Baranovskiy received information about a vehicle being driven in Arnprior by an unlicensed driver. The officer located the suspect vehicle and observed the male driver had been drinking. After failing a roadside alcohol screening test, he was arrested for driving over 80mgs. Following further breath tests at the detachment Ryan Jotham, 26 of Arnprior, was charged with drive while disqualified. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, June 14. He was also charged with two Highway Traffic Act (HTA) charges – Drive while under Suspension, and Novice Driver BAC above Zero.
On Saturday, April 29 at 8:30 p.m., information was received about a possible impaired driver in Arnprior. A description of the suspect male driver and vehicle was provided to police and the vehicle was located and stopped. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the detachment for breath tests. As a result Russell Smith, 65 of Arnprior, was charged with impaired driving, driving over 80mgs, two counts of breach of probation, and two counts of breach of a recognizance. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. PC Joel Cobb led the investigation.
At approximately 11:40 p.m. Saturday, April 29, officers were travelling on Highway 17 near Calabogie Road when they observed a vehicle swerve into the ditch and roll over. The male driver was able to get exit the vehicle. Further investigation revealed he had been drinking and he failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests Jordan Jones Lavallee, 20 of Pembroke, was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on May 31. PC J.P. St. Cyr investigated the incident.
Fraud
An investigation has started into fraudulent cheques being cashed in Arnprior. One victim contacted police to report several cheques fraudulently written and cashed in Arnprior. There is a suspect.
Beware of a new delivery type of scam. The suspect will contact the victim to arrange a delivery. When they arrive they deliver a gift basket and advise there is a fee to be paid which must be by credit or debit card. Their debit machine is capable of capturing your credit card info and PIN. Do not accept any gift if you cannot verify who the sender was or if you must make a payment to accept the gift. Above all, the only time you should give out any personal credit/debit card information is when you yourself initiated the purchase or transaction.
Drug Charges
On Thursday, May 4 at approximately 11:48 p.m., OPP officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 after a complaint was received about the driving of the suspect vehicle. The male driver was arrested for possession of marihuana. Following a search of the vehicle the male was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Devon Eheler, 26 of Pembroke, was released from custody on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, June 28. PC Kyle Mask led the investigation.
On Friday, May 5 at approximately 11 a.m., PC Patrick O’Connor stopped a truck on Highway 132 after receiving information that there was a large quantity of marihuana being transported in the truck. A quantity of marihuana was located in the vehicle. Daniel Chartrand, 43 of Clarendon, Que., was charged with possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
