RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) —The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 215 calls for service.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 6 domestic disputes during the past week. One accused has been charged with mischief under $5000.00.

Victim Services of Renfrew County is also available to provide emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced domestic violence. Impaired Driving
On November 22, officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint on Daniel Street South, in the Town of Arnprior. As a result of a traffic stop Mark Meilleur, 40 years old, of Ottawa has been charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on December 18.
On November 23, officers from the Renfrew OPP Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) initiative on Fraser Road in Horton Township. As a result of a traffic stop Douglas Burwell, 60 years old, of Greater Madawaska Township has been charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on December 4.
Theft
On November 20, officers with the Renfrew OPP responded to a theft call at a business in the Town of Renfrew. As a result of the investigation Laura Price, 52 years old of Renfrew has been charged with theft under $5000. The accused was released on an appearance notice to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on December 18.
Threats
On November 19, an officer with the Renfrew OPP responded to a threats call in McNab/Braeside Township. As a result of the investigation Melissa-Anne Dick, 31 years old of McNab/Braeside Township has been charged with uttering threats and indecent communications. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on December 18.
Scam Calls
The Renfrew OPP would like to warn the public of an ongoing telephone scam by imposters claiming to be from the Government and warning of social insurance number frauds. The fraudsters advise the target that their social insurance number has been compromised and the intended victim is often threatened with arrest and jail if they do not provide their social insurance number.
With this scam the fraudster attempts to create a sense of urgency which may cause the victim to not verify the story. The scammer wants to trick you into providing your social insurance number information. If a scam artist contacts you or if you have been defrauded contact your local police service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC). You can file a report with the CAFC by calling 1-888-495-8501 (Monday to Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm EST) or by using their online reporting tool at www.antifraudcentre.ca
