The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated 266 calls between Tuesday, October 2 and Monday, October 8.

Domestic Violence

Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 12 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with assault, one female was charged with 2 counts of assault and one male was charged with uttering threats and resisting arrest. No other criminal offences were alleged.  If you or someone you know is living in or involved in an abusive relationship help is available. Contact Bernadette McCann House 24/7 for support, advice or the safety of a shelter at 1-800-267-4930. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County is also available 24/7 for information and support at 1-800-663-3060.  You could also attend the emergency department of any hospital in Renfrew County and ask to speak to a member of the Assault Response Team. Victim Services of Renfrew County is also available to provide emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced domestic violence. They can be reached at 613-649-2852 or toll free at 1-877-568-5730.  In emergencies call 9-1-1.

Thefts

A wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked at the Renfrew Armouries on Saturday, October 6. Between 6:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., a thief stole a green 31 brand wallet from a purse in the unlocked vehicle. Stolen property included identification, bank and credit cards and cash. There are no suspects.

Gasoline was stolen from a gas station in Renfrew when the driver made no attempt to pay. On Sunday, October 7 at approximately 1:25 p.m., a male driving a white Ford pick-up truck pumped gasoline into the truck and then drove off westbound on O’Brien Rd. Police at the time were unable to locate the vehicle. PC Sarah Darraugh is continuing to investigate.

Operation Impact

From Oct. 5 – 8, the OPP took part in Operation Impact, an annual national campaign designed to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world. Operation Impact has officers focus on the main behaviours that put drivers, passengers, and other road users most at risk: distracted driving, impaired driving, aggressive driving and not using seatbelts. The Renfrew and Arnprior OPP arrested 2 impaired drivers, issued 1 warn range licence suspension, issued 22 speeding tickets and 6 hazardous moving violations during the 4 days. Operation Impact is organized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), under the leadership of the CACP Traffic Safety Committee, in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025.

Impaired Drivers

On Friday, October 5 at approximately 1:55 p.m., OPP officers were conducting RIDE spot checks on White Lake Road in McNab Braeside Township. A male driver was stopped who had been drinking. The male driver failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested. At the detachment he refused to provide further samples of his breath. As a result, Christopher Morriso, aged 29 of Mississippi Mills, was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, November 7. PC Derek Andrechek led the investigation.

On Saturday, October 6 at approximately 3:10 a.m., PC Matt McLaren observed a pick-up truck weaving in the southbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Blvd in Renfrew. The vehicle was stopped on Argyle St S. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following breath tests at the detachment, Curtis Sawbridge, aged 21 of Bonnechere Valley Township, was charged with driving over 80 mgs and impaired driving. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, November 7.

PC Meagan MacLeod stopped a vehicle on Sunday, October 7 at approximately 11:07 a.m. on Stewart Street in Renfrew for a traffic infraction. The male driver had the odour of alcohol on his breath and subsequently failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests at the detachment Brad Carrier, aged 37 of Dunrobin, was charged with driving over 80 mgs and impaired driving. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on Wednesday, November 7.

Stunt Driving Charge

On Friday, October 5 at approximately 9:50 p.m., PC Dave Peace was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 60 in the Township of Admaston Bromley when he observed a vehicle at a very high rate of speed. The speeding was confirmed with a radar unit and the suspect vehicle was stopped on Harvey’s Crescent. As a result of the investigation Devin Limlaw, aged 18 of Admaston Bromley Township, was issued a summons to appear in court charged with stunt driving — speeding in excess of 50 km/hr above the posted speed limit. His licence was suspended and vehicle impounded for 7 days.
