Councillor Olmstead brought up a “greater level of littering” along highways or roads, with more smaller litter. He brought up a specific instance of the bylaw enforcer seeing someone throw a full bag of garbage out the window. He called it an “unprecedented level of littering”, saying he believed it was travellers driving through rather than local residents. He asked the council for recommendations.

“We have one of the nicest area in the country.” Olmstead said. “It’s a pet peeve of mine to see littering like this.”

Trembley said that future policies would be directed at educating the public, with increased environmental stewardship in the Pitch-in and Adopt-a-road initiatives.

Mayor Moore asked about advertising anti-littering messages in future communication.

Councillor Olmstead said he received a comment from people who have traditionally had trash dumped on their property reported a decrease in littering, and that the issue was with drive-by dropping.

“We can’t make it any easier.” He said.

Councillor MacLaughlin said that he hadn’t seen much on his own land, while Mayor Moore said that he’s had garbage on his lawn and aluminum on his lawn.
