COBDEN — Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant was pleased to visit the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden to present the community with a second Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
The defibrillators are funded through a partnership between the Conservative Federal Government and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, MP Gallant said.
“Together with the Renfrew County Paramedic Services, we are pleased to present the Cobden arena with this new defibrillator,” the MP said. “This defibrillator will be important in protecting the health and lives of those affected by severe cardiac episodes, while in the sports facility. The Heart and Stroke Foundation has partnered in this program to promote healthy and safe lifestyles for Canadians is greatly appreciated.”
The Cobden arena has one in the main area of the arena, said arena manager Jerry McIntyre.
The second AED recently received was put in the upstairs hall where exercise programs are held three mornings a week as well as in the evenings, said Mr. McIntyre.
The Federal Government has committed $10 million in funding for a four year period to, in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, install Automated External Defibrillators in recreational arenas across Canada, and train staff and personnel on how to use them.
