Second degree murder charge laid

HORTON TOWNSHIP – On Saturday, August 13, at approximately 11:32 p.m., officers from the Renfrew Detachment of the OPP responded to a residence on Cobus Road, Horton Township where a 60-year-old man, from Horton Township, was found deceased.
On Tuesday, August 16, a 17-year-old male from Renfrew County was charged with one count of second degree murder under the Criminal Code of Canada. The youth appeared for a bail hearing and was remanded until 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke Youth Court.
On August 16, 2016, a court imposed Publication Ban was issued by the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.
The identity of the deceased will not be released to protect the identity of the accused. The name of the young person will not be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
Members of the Renfrew OPP Crime Unit, East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the OPP Regional Support Team, under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), will be continuing with this investigation.
