Second theft suspect arrested in poppy fund theft

PEMBROKE — A second Pembroke man in relation to a theft of poppy funds last month at the Mac’s Convenience store on Pembroke Street East in the City of Pembroke has been arrested and charged by members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP. At the time of his arrest the suspect, who stole candy from the store, was found to be in possession of several types of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
George Thomas Bell, 33 of Pembroke, is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:
• Theft under $5000
• Fail to comply with recognizance – two counts
• Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
• Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone
• Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – lorazepam
• Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking – nabilone
• Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking – cannabis resin
• Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking – cannabis marihuana
He was held for a bail hearing and released on a recognizance of bail with a court date of January 9, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
The first male suspect who stole poppy funds from Mac’s Convenience stores was previously arrested and remains in custody until his next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
