WHITEWATER REGION (Westmeath) — The Riverview Seniors Social Club celebrated the Christmas season on December 9th at the Westmeath Community Hall with a sit-down dinner followed by a dance that was organized by Phil Cottrell and his crew. The WDRA staff prepared and served dinner to the 124 people who attended the fun event. The appetizers, dinner and dessert were first-class.
The evening opened with Mr. Cottrell introducing Santa Claus. Pierrette Cottrell and Shannon Dunfield decided not to let him leave without sitting on his knee to tell him their fantasies. Suddenly it happened — Mrs. Claus arrived and accused Ms. Dunfield, while sitting on Santa’s knee, of hitting on her man. A melee broke out on the floor. Cooler heads finally prevailed. Westmeath officer Beth Ethier threatened Santa with drinking on the job!
Peter Payr from Berlin, Germany was there for the festivities. He has been visiting a few times each year for many years. Retiring next month, he plans on spending much more time at his home on Rapid Road. His second home is in the Valley because, “I really like the people around here and they are always friendly to me.”
There was a funny situation but not funny to Randy Fletcher. His right heel somehow broke apart in just minutes, leaving a trail of black heel pieces from his table to the dance floor. Sheila Perras was heard to say, “I danced the shoes right off him.” Mr. Fletcher went back home for different shoes but unfortunately, they couldn’t cut it on the dance floor.
Station Hill, a four-member band, played an eclectic range of songs to the delight of everyone. The bass guitarist was amazing when performing ‘rock’ songs.
