Disclosure: Joe Kowalski owns and publishes the Whitewater News.
The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approved entering into a Site Plan Agreement with Riseline Enterprises Ltd. to permit the redevelopment/expansion of 1260 Grants Settlement Road, subject to the final approval by the CAO.
CAO Trembley said. “Through the pandemic, the Kowalski family has poured good amount of money into the property. What we’re doing with the site plan agreement is recognizing what is being done now but also what Mr. Kowalski is planning in the next two or three years.
“There are some ceder units that are not on site right now but. We have a good relationship with he proponent and we expect these to be implemented. The site will be monitoring water flows to ensure that everything is fine, and there’s an archaeological study that will need to be done. The proponent will have a year to do that.”
“We hope to work on the remaining building permits on the next four or six weeks to do that. Doug and Carmen have made a lot of headway with Kowalski.
Councillor Mackay said: “I looked at this and my eyes crossed, and I called up Doug and said it was good and to vote for it.”
“We’re having issues printing the larger one here but we can get that.” CAO Trembley said. “If you go down there you can see that there’s been considerable improvement to the site.”
“It looks really good, these plans are bang-on with what’s on the ground. “Councillor Jackson said. “I congratulate Joe on what was a very stressful two summons, and I wish him success so we can get on with life as we know it.”
“I think I have a firm hand on this, since i worked there when i twas river run.” Councillor McLaughlin said. “There’s a lot of changes, a lot of positive things. We should have pictures of before of after. Nothing wrong with before, it worked, but it’s just quite a change.”
Councillor Nicholson said it was “excellent.” but asked. “I was under the impression that Joe [Kowalski] had applied for that provincial park – is it
“Those would be lands outside of those owned with the proponent.”CAO Trembley said. “I understand it was a competitive process with the proponent. That has closed, we’re just waiting to hear with the province. Less about our election, and more about the provincial election. That’s one of the new Minister of Environment’s causes he’s been championing. I’d expect some kind of announcement before the June election.”
“Wilderness Tours has a lot of commercial operations in regards to nature.” CAO Trembely said. “it should be a no-brainer but its up to the province.”
The motion was carried.
