PEMBROKE — A week after a urn containing the ashes of a mother was stolen — it was returned to its rightful owner.
On Saturday, September 2, 2017 the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP began an investigation into the theft of an urn from inside a residence on Garden Street in the City of Pembroke.
The urn was stolen sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. while an estate/garage sale was being held at the residence. The pink urn, which contained the ashes of a deceased person, featured decorative designs and is approximately two to three inches in height.
On Saturday, September 9, police were called to a different yard sale in Pembroke. The person hosting the sale noticed that the stolen urn had been wrapped in paper towel and deposited on a table sometime during the yard sale.
A note accompanying the urn instructed the finder to call police. The urn was turned over to police and was returned to the family a short time later.
