RENFREW COUNTY (Petawawa) — The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has prevented serious injuries, or worse, on Highway 17.
The OPP received a report shortly before midnight on September 22, about a vehicle being driven dangerously, eastbound on Highway 17 in the Cobden area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, south of Cobden, but the driver fled, continuing eastbound a high speed, swerving into the westbound lane. The vehicle eventually left the roadway, near Renfrew and rolled onto its roof.
The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was initially transported from the scene by Renfrew County Paramedics and was later transferred to an Ottawa hospital by Ornge Air Ambulance. Despite initial concern, the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.
A 33 year old man from Petawawa has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from a Peace Officer. He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date for a bail hearing.
