COBDEN – The Terry Fox Run in Cobden once again had to be ‘Virtual’ this year, due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop Whitewater residents from donating almost $4400 to various cancer research and treatment groups on September 19th.
Bonnie Helferty said that this total added to our previous totals since1998 – add up to $133,127.00
She said that the total came from 30 different pledges this year.
“Our Cobden walk have some very dedicated walkers, that have participated since 1998.” she said.
The first Cobden Terry Fox Run in 1998 had 35 participants, she said.
Terry Fox runs support cancer research an charity, which the run’s namesake ran across Canada with a prosthetic leg to support, having lost his limb, and eventually his life, to cancer.
Helferty said that while an organized run was impossible due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, families found other ways to participate and support.
“Some of the folks walked around town, others went to Shaw woods to enjoy the nature trails there, others walked in their own bush.” she said.
She thanked everyone who supported the walk.
This is the second year the walk has had to be held ‘virtually’, due to the COVID-19 outbreaks in March of 2020.
“Hopefully in 2022 we can have a regular walk,” Helferty said.
