Three area students competed at the Lions Club District A4 Public Speaking Competition at North Dundas High School in Chesterville on Saturday, March 25. The Beachburg Lions Club participants returned home with all three English 1st place winners. The winners, with Beachburg Lions Club member Claire Martin, are, from left, Intermediate, Daniella Bell, Senior, David Bell, both from Opeongo High School and Junior, Georgia Wylie from Cobden District Public School. They will now compete at theMultiple District A competition to be held in St. Catharines on Saturday, May 6. Ms. Martin noted in the Senior division, each participant had to prepare a speech and then had to choose a surprise topic, take 15 minutes to prepare a speech on it, and then give the speech. “I’m pretty proud of how these three did,” she said. Ms. Martin has been involved for 15 years with the Lions Club public speaking competition.
