Recommend to support the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s Gigabyte project, which would expand broadband internet and improve connectivity in the whitewater region.
CAO Trembley outlined the motion to publicly endorse the initiative.
“I definitely do support his 100%” Reeve Regier said.
“This is not 5G.” Chris Olmstead clarified. “I’ve heard some rumoured going around. I just wanted to dispel that myth.”
“This is one of the only ways we can move forward.” Councillor MacLaughlin said
Trembley added that “The county leading on this is helpful.”
Councillor Neil Nicholson expressed concern that the Township should explore“How can we influence their priorities. They work to the caucus and we have one seat on the caucus.”
The warden is their political representative, Trembley said, and it was “based on their connections” and “Getting a technical sense of things” . “We don’t have the technical expertise. We rely on EORN and the providers, but also on our colleagues.”
“If we don’t advocate for ourselves, we’re just sitting back and waiting for someone to see us as an opportunity.” He advocated a more proactive advocacy role in influences their decisions.
“We need to make a special effort into being heard.”
Mayor Moore asked if Regier had a rebuttal, but she did not.
It was voted upon, and carried.
