WESTMEATH — Two speaker events hosted by the Riverview Seniors Club are not to be missed – especially the second one, which is for men only.
Depression in Later Life is tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 28 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Westmeath Recreation Centre Hall. This is for all people and is a free event.
For many older people, mental issues, such as depression, were not discussed. Years ago, there wasn’t much information about this prevalent condition in the older population.
This is your chance to learn the latest thinking. Depression can be treated.
Psychiatrist Dr. C. Donald Brown will explain Depression and answer your questions. Know the signs and what you can do to help.
Growing older brings loss. Friends and relations die or slip away. Health issues bring isolation; a retreat from active life or perhaps a physical impairment must be dealt with.
Some people handle these losses and changes by ‘feeling blue’ or just not themselves for a time; but for others depression sets in. We are not talking about a bad day. Depression has been described as ‘like a cage without a key.’
The second event is a Men’s Health Forum on Wednesday, Nov. 30, also at the Westmeath Community Centre Hall.
This special guys-only event is meant to inspire men to live healthy.
Health professionals and guest speakers Dr. Kristian Davis and Ray Parchelo, from the Whitewater Bromley Community Health Clinic, will tackle how the older male body handles stress, disease and the wear and tear resulting from a long, busy life.
You will be able to ask those questions you have wanted answered. Come and hear the current approaches to maintaining your wellness.
The event is free and supper is included.
If you are aged 55+ and live in Whitewater Region book your supper reservation from Tuesday, November 1 to Tuesday, Nov. 8 by phoning 613-587 4856.
