Upper Ottawa Valley OPP festive R.I.D.E. program

RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2019 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 23 and will continue until January 2, 2020. During the first week of the campaign from November 23 to November 29, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 15 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.  No impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as a result of the RIDE campaign.

On November 23, police conducted a traffic stop just before 12:30 a.m. on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As part of the investigation, a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. 

As a result of this investigation, 21 year old Brody White of Whitewater Region has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg

On November 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Moffat Street in the City of Pembroke after an unattended parked car was struck by another vehicle. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene. 

As a result of this investigation, 32 year old Matthew Lair of Pembroke has been charged with the following CC and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) charges:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension (HTA)

 Each accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days. Both drivers were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear on December 17 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
