Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Report

During the week of Sept. 8 to 14, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment investigated of the OPP investigated 284 incidents including thefts, frauds and motor vehicle collisions

Theft from Motor Vehicle
• On Sept. 10, a report was filed of a theft of two back packs and a rail saw from a vehicle that had been parked on Forced Road in the City of Pembroke. P/C Mike Mahon is the investigating officer.
• P/C Tom Kobylecki is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of a coat and sunglasses from a vehicle that had been left parked on Pembroke St. East in the City of Pembroke. The coat has been located, however the sunglasses are still missing. The report was filed on Sept. 11.
• On Sept. 11, a report was filed of a theft of documents from a vehicle that had been left parked on Achray Road in Laurentian Valley Twp. P/C Mike Cholette is the investigating officer.
The public is reminded to always remove valuables and or lock unattended vehicles.

Fraud
• P/C Peter Spital is the investigating officer in a report in which an individual reported receiving a telephone call from someone claiming to represent a computer company indicating that they could assist with the removal of a computer virus on their computer. They were given remote control access to the computer. The report was filed on Sept. 9.
• A second similar complaint was filed on Sept. 11, where a company sent the complainant an email, claiming to be able to remove a virus from their computer. The company then was given remote access to the computer to remove the virus for a fee. The complainant received a call later saying that the fee had been reimbursed in error and that he needed to send money right away or would be sued. The computer no longer works properly.
The public is reminded to be extremely cautious when dealing with companies you have not contacted, and now want to fix your computer and gain remote access to it.
“Allowing a third party to download software or remotely access a computer carries inherent risks. Key loggers or other malicious software could be installed to capture sensitive data such as online banking user names and passwords, bank account information, identity information” according to the Antifraud Centre. Threats
On Sept. 12, police were advised of a dispute on Carmody St. in the City of Pembroke. As a result a male young person has been charged with Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code. P/C Julie Desjardins is the investigating officer.

Traffic
While on routine patrol P/C John Sucee stopped a vehicle on Beachburg Road in the Twp. of Whitewater Region. As a result charges are pending against the adult female driver for HTA violations as well as Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The report was filed on Sept. 12.

Motor vehicle collisions
During the week of the Sept. 8 to 14th, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment investigated 12 motor vehicle collisions. 11 were property damage and one was personal injury.

Domestics
During the week of the Sept. 8 to 14th, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment investigated 12 domestics’ disputes. As a result the following people were charged:
• One adult female has been charged with Assault with a Weapon and Forcible Confinement contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male has been charged with Harassing Telephone Calls contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male has been charged with Harassing Telephone Calls contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male has been charged with Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male has been charged with Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm, Assault, Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person, Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male was charged with Assault and Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code
• One adult male was charged with Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge contrary to the Criminal Code

Mischief
• On Sept. 8, a complaint was filed in which an unknown vehicle drove onto the grassy area at Pansy Patch Park in the City of Pembroke and caused large ruts on the grass. P/C John Kirbyson is the investigating officer.
• P/C Tina Davenport is the investigating officer in a report in which unknown persons attempted to break into a shed on Petawawa Blvd in the Town of Petawawa. The lock was damaged, and entry was not gained. The report was filed on Sept. 9.
• P/C Janice Harrison is the investigating officer in a report of vandalism to a vehicle that was parked in a parking lot off of Pembroke St. East in Laurentian Valley Twp. The vehicle was scratched down the driver’s side of the vehicle. The report was filed on Sept. 14. The investigation is continuing.

Break Enter and Theft
• On Sept. 8, police were advised of a break and enter to property on Mary St. in the City of Pembroke. Nothing appears to have been stolen. P/C Chris Throop is the investigating officer.
• P/C Julie Desjardins is the investigating officer in a report of a complaint of a break and enter to a residence on Nelson St. in the City of Pembroke. Charges are pending against an adult male for Unlawfully in Dwelling House contrary to the Criminal Code. The investigation is continuing. The report was filed on Sept. 14.

Theft
• On Sept. 8, a report was filed of a theft of copper pipe from property on Finnerty Road in the Twp. of Whitewater Region. P/C Mike Mahon is the investigating officer.
• P/C Chris Throop is the investigating officer in a report of a drive off theft of gasoline from a gas station on Pembroke St. East in the City of Pembroke. The vehicle was described as being a blue Hyundai. The report was filed on Sept. 8. The investigation is continuing.
• P/C Jeff Rolofs is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of prescription medication from a residence in the City of Pembroke. The report was filed on Sept. 8. A second complaint was filed of a theft of medication from the City of Pembroke. This report was filed on Sept. 9.
• On Sept. 9, a report was filed of a theft of garbage bins from a business on Pembroke St. West in the City of Pembroke. P/C Jeremy McGinnis is the investigating officer. The investigation is continuing.
• On Sept. 10, a report was filed of a theft of a dump trailer from Paul Martin Drive in the City of Pembroke. P/C Wayne Desjardins was the investigating officer.
• P/C Tanya Kutschke is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of a bulldozer on Black Bay Road in the Town of Petawawa. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending. The report was filed on Sept. 11.
• On Sept. 11, a report was filed of a theft of a specialized dirt jumper bicycle from Briarwood Drive in the Town of Petawawa. The bicycle has a brown seat and brown handgrips. P/C Derrek Janveau was the investigating officer.
• P/C Jeff Cotnam is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of a black and red CCM Banff mountain bike from Munroe St. in the City of Pembroke. The report was filed on Sept. 13.
• On Sept. 13, a report was filed of a theft of bank cards from a residence on Isabella St. in the City of Pembroke. P/C Julie Desjardins is the investigating officer. The investigation is continuing.
• P/C Pat Smith is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of cash from a residence on Butler Bv. in the Town of Petawawa. The report was filed on Sept. 13. The investigation is continuing.
• P/C John Sucee is the investigating officer in a report of a theft of gasoline from a gas station on Pembroke St. East Laurentian Valley Twp. The report was filed on the 13th of September.
• On the 13th of September police were advised of a theft of gasoline from a gas station on Pembroke St. West in the City of Pembroke. P/C Alda Proulx is the investigating officer. The investigation is continuing.

Theft Motor Vehicle
On Sept. 8, a report was filed of a theft of a motor vehicle on McKay St. in the City of Pembroke. The vehicle was subsequently located and charges are pending against a 22 year old adult male from Pembroke. P/C Dillon Gerundin is the investigating officer.

Dispute
On Sept. 13, police were advised of a dispute on Main St. in the Town of Laurentian Hills. P/C David Scott is the investigating officer. The investigation is continuing.

RIDE
During the week of the 8th to the 14th of September, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment conducted 8 RIDE programs.
