Myrtle Bromley was presented with the 2020-2021 “Lifetime Volunteer” award by Councillor Nicholson during Canada Day celebrations in Westmeath. Myrtle who married John Bromley, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary June 7th, and has lived since then on Bromley Line.

Myrtle was a person who was instrumental in bringing things to life, constantly planning and organizing for so many occasions. She has been actively involved in the events at the Westmeath Community Center, the United Church with the UCW, Sunday School, Adult Fellowships as well as the Westmeath Women’s Institute, Westmeath Public School Home on the school parent council.

When Crystal was 12 years old, Myrtle became a 4H leader for the many clubs that involved her.

A huge participant in fundraising and support for building the new Arena, she did it again after the fire occurred at the front part of the rink.

For Westmeath Days she volunteered to set up events for the community and its visitors to participate in. Myrtle along with the church’s Sunday School entered floats in the Westmeath Days parades.

Myrtle raised a family of five promoting the importance of community involvement and being a good neighbour.

During the time of the disastrous flood of 2019, she continuously went to the Westmeath Hall with food offerings for the military, the volunteers and those whose homes were flooded.

As COVID took over the volunteering has been a little more difficult. Now entering a new normal she has resumed her volunteer efforts and has started cooking again for community events.

Myrtle Bromley, deserving of this award, exemplifies a good volunteer. She is a strong advocate for anyone in need and has always been a proud member of the Westmeath Community family.
