The Council heard a recommendation that Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approve an amendment to the zoning category of the property described as Westmeath Concession 3 EML N, Part of Lot 14, and known municipally as 2370 Zion Line, from “Agriculture (A) Zone” to the “Agriculture – Exception Forty-Six (A-E46) Zone”.
CAO Ivan Burton said the application, submitted by Andrew McLeese was to permit a secondary dwelling with an area of 700 square feed, and to recognize an existing outdoor furnace having less than the lot line setback of 25 metres, rather than the 50 metres,
“Essentially the province through the provincial policy statement generally supports secondary dwellings, whether they are in the rural areas or settlement areas.” Ivan Burton said.
“Our zoning bylaws are dated; this one is Westmeath 1998.” he said.
He said that there were no adjacent dwellings to the furnace it would not affect any setbacks.
The applicant was not present.
Councillor McLaughlin asked if agricultural ground was around the lot.
“The property by Mr. McCleese were severed for agricultural means. Directly to the north and south of his house, we’ve actually placed a restriction on housing. No housing would be permitted.”
“I’m just kind of concerned about the outdoor furnace, but that was already constructed?” McLaughlin asked.
“It was constructed and installed legally prior to the severence.”
The motion was carried.
