What a SWEET DAY!!! It started with a few hipcups, but those two hiccups ended up working out for us.
Thank-you Kim for running on “Tammy time” and picking me up.
Kimmy and I paddled down to the “Squirt boat” competition. It was killing this cat to see how they did this and it was pretty sweet watching them.
If you did not go down you missed a pretty amazing day.
The women and men who do this sport is WOW — they sure do got talent.
Some of them make it look so easy. They start off twirling their boat till they are fully down under the water. Then, if they can keep going, they go down as far as 12 feet l think is what they said.
Some stay down there for 30 seconds or more and then they pop up down the river and go into free style movements on the water. I’m probably not explaining it right — just google it.
Got some fantastic pics and was just amazed with the river.
I was able to explore the island and meet some people also.
THE PROPOSAL
The lady who won first place in women’s squirt — Claire O’Hara from the UK — her boyfriend — Jez Blanchard, an announcer from Australia — proposed to her down there in front of us all.
He ad flowers and a sign “will you mary me?” The judges weere like “are you going to say YES!”
She said “Yes”.
Then, the men stepped up to the plate, and the 1st and 2nd, they showed off what they could do and they really blew my mind. They went down the rapid in their squirt boat! It was so cool!!!
It was a great start to the first day of competition of the 2015 Kayak Freestyle World Championships.
