Fun is happening in Beachburg all day Saturday — yup, it’s Winter Carnival time.
It’s an early start to the day with a pancake breakfast at the Beachburg Lions Hall. It starts at 7 a.m. and goes until noon. And there’s all the fixings to go with the breakfast as well. The cost is $7 — $5 if you have already purchased the $3 carnival button.
While it is more expensive with the button, you are also entered into the button draw. The first prize is a 32” Sony flat screen tv; second prize is one hour ice time and third prize is a large pizza.
Throughout the day until 3 p.m., there will be various children’s games inside the arena.
Registration for the 3-on-3 hockey pond tourney is 8 a.m. while play begins an hour later. Each team requires four men and two women.
Magician Steve Anthony will entertain from noon until 2 p.m.
From 12:30 until 2 p.m., Valley Princess Elza and Batman will entertain the children in the heated rink room with the movie Frozen being shown.
At 4 p.m. Base Petawawa firefighters will face-off against Laurentian Valley firefighters.
For 30 minutes, there is free public skating at 7:30 p.m.
The carnival ends with a hockey game between Whitewater Region Township firefighters and North Algona Wilberforce firefighters.
All proceeds from the day-long event will go to the Beachburg Volunteer Firefighters Association to be used for community events.
