PEMBROKE — Volunteers of the Pembroke Senior Drop-In Centre, 42 Renfrew St., invite you to attend a Yoga Marathon fundraising event on Saturday July 15.
This new event is open to people of all ages and will provide an opportunity for the general public to support their local seniors. Not only will the event help raise dollars to finance the many activities offered at the Centre but will provide participants an opportunity to stay fit, meet new people and have fun! This event is a great way to introduce yourself to yoga or give you the motivation to return to your yoga practice.
The cost of the event beginning at 9 a.m. is $15 non-members and $10 for members.
Lynn T. Murphy will be offering a Moderate Flow Yoga from 9 to 10:30 a.m followed by a Gentle/Yin Flow Yoga at 10:45 a.m. to noon, instructed by Jason Secord. Your registration fee covers both classes. You can attend both or only the one of your choice. We recommend pre-registration; however, we will also be offering drop-in registration at the door. Call 613 735-1226 for more information.
Ms. Murphy became a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher in 1992 opening North Bay’s first yoga studio in 1999. She moved to Pembroke in 2005 and continues to remain passionate about yoga and pilates. Ms. Murphy continues to teach both in addition to an ongoing commitment to social work and volunteer work in our community. Kripalu Yoga, also known as the Yoga of Compassion focuses on developing an awareness of body sensations and ultimately our inner core of stillness. Ms. Murphy’s class will encourage you to practice self-compassion and to “listen to your body”. With a regular practice you will come to enjoy the head-to-toe benefits that are mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. Ms. Murphy is a current board member who holds the intention of motivating seniors age 50 and up through yoga classes and other activities.
Jason Secord has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for the past 8 years. He has studied several types of yoga and his main focus is now on the Yin or internal aspect of the practice. His classes are designed to release mental and physical stress through calming the mind and opening the body into deep releases. Mr. Secord also teaches meditation and Qi Gong and is a therapist in massage and subtle energy. The benefits of Mr. Secord’s teachings are enjoyed weekly by many of the Centre’s members.
