PETAWAWA — After the huge success of Canada’s 150 Grants in 2017, the 100+ Women Campaign of the Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation is now launching its regular annual granting process for this year. These grants are for 100 percent of funds, no matching is required. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $5,000 through the 100+ Women Fund.

The 100+ Women Grant is used to support some of the greatest women and children’s needs in its community. Application forms are via the website at http://www.givingthatgrows.com/stories-of-giving/100-women-campaign/.

“Our annual grants tend to cover expenses that organizations can’t have covered by other grants, or which are too small to apply for grants on their own,” explains Vicki Bradfield, Treasurer of the Granting Committee for the 100+ Women Committee. “A little can go a long way in our community.”

The grants are made possible each year, as 100+ women contribute $100 to raise $10,000 and divided two ways. $5,000 is immediately returned to the community to help women via the granting process. The second $5,000 is put into a 100+ Women endowment fund within the Foundation where the principle of these funds is not touched and the fund will grow annually to provide additional funding to women’s causes in the future. Every year the interest that is accrued can also be added to the amount put towards the annual grants.

Organizations applying for funds must have a charitable number or be a qualified donee as recognized through the Canada Revenue Agency. Applicants are required to submit a letter of intent by January 9, 2019, and if approved, they will be invited to submit a completed application by January 30. Applications are open to any eligible organizations within Renfrew County. Grants will be awarded in early May.

Individuals, on behalf of themselves or someone else, are welcome to contribute to the growing endowment fund for women at any time. These donations will contribute to the growing of dollars through investment – the “giving that grows” aspect of the Foundation. We continue to accept donations for the 2018 Campaign until December 31.

The 100+ Women Campaign is a fundraising initiative of the Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation. Since its inaugural year in 2014, the group has enriched many women’s initiatives in its area. To date, the Foundation has put $45,000 back into its community. The group aims to have at least 100 women pledge $100 annually. Some women have contributed themselves, while others have contributed on behalf of women who are important in their lives.

The Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation is a public foundation which benefits the community by providing funds to charities, local groups and organizations that are also registered under the Income Tax Act. It is one of more than 191 Community Foundations in Canada. The Foundation was established in 2008 and has a mandate to invest and manage charitable funds for projects, causes and other community organizations. Proceeds are distributed to meet the community’s greatest needs.
