PEMBROKE — On a sunny and cool Friday, Sept. 8, 78 enthusiastic golfers set out to drive home the importance of giving back. The 13th Annual Warden’s Cup Invitational Golf Tournament was hosted this year by County of Renfrew Warden Jennifer Murphy at the beautiful Whitetail Golf Club in Bonnechere Valley Township. The best ball format shotgun start tournament saw teams from across the county and beyond turn out for 18 holes of golf, dinner, prizes all in support of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital oncology unit.
“I want to take an opportunity to thank each participant and every sponsor for their generosity and support with making the 13th Annual Tournament such a success,” said County of Renfrew Warden Jennifer Murphy. “I also congratulate the winning team for a match well played; that being said the Renfrew Victoria Hospital oncology unit and the recipients of their expert care are the real winners today. Fundraising events like this tournament are a real testament to the giving nature of our residents.”
Warden Murphy presented Randy Penny from the Renfrew Victoria Hospital a cheque in the amount of $3,700. The donation was made up from funds raised at the tournament, and staff denim days held earlier in the year at County of Renfrew offices.
Later in the day during the presentations, event Emcee Bruce Beakley, Director of Human Resources at the County of Renfrew announced the winning team. The happy winners, Stewart Melanson, Andrew Hamilton, Kevin Atwater, and Gary Pultz, posed for a picture with their trophy and prizes in front of an applauding crowd in the clubhouse.
