WESTMEATH – Recently, the Westmeath & District Recreation Association (WDRA) with an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) capital grant of $150,000 completed the replacement of a 40-year-old entrance and ramp with an inclusive barrier-free one that leads into the second-floor Westmeath Community Hall. It is now outfitted with an overhead roof over the whole installation. A ribbon-cutting ceremony happened on the 27th November 2020 to mark the completion of the upgrades.

“This facility is definitely the ‘hub of the community. Thanks to the grant by Ontario Trillium Foundation, these renovations and upgrades were made possible. They will ensure safe, comfortable access for all. I would like to extend my appreciation to all who supported and contributed to this grant application” said MPP John Yakabuski.

The project is a collaboration between the WDRA and the Township of Whitewater Region along with in-kind support from the Riverview Seniors Social Club (RSSC).

“This funding by the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this project is welcome news. It will benefit anyone with mobility issues while serving our community better”, said Brenda Grady, WDRA President.

“I would like to give credit to our community for their patience and all the other factors that made it a success, especially the $150,000 grant money awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. We are thankful to the office of MPP Yakabuski, acknowledging the OTF contribution as without it the renovation of the new entrance and ramp would never have begun.” said Bob Grylls, WDRA Grants Coordinator
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $115 million to 644 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
