COBDEN – Last week the judging took place for the Cobden Recreation Association Christmas Lights Contest.

Twenty-one homes and eight businesses participated.

The judges (Barb Thibeau of Beachburg, Jesslyn Moore of Arnprior and Miriam Hunt of Haley Station) drove around to each location on Wednesday evening. They were very impressed with the quality and creativity of the displays. The enthusiasm and the Christmas spirit of the participants were very evident. Many other homes could easily have been part of this contest and they were enjoyed as well on the tour. Of particular note is Ross Street and Foresters Falls Road from Highway 17 to Cedarhaven Road, as well as Springfield and Summerfield Drive.

The judges considered the construction, light organization, visual impact, curb appeal, holiday spirit and unique elements at each location. The decisions were very hard to make as little separated one from another. Since it was a contest, prize winners had to be chosen.

Prizes for homes were purchased from local businesses and some businesses made a donation as well. Prizes for businesses were donation to a charity of their choice. There was only 1 entry in the novelty category (and an excellent entry it was) so more winners were determined in the traditional category.
