WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Ginny Hoszko is hoping a break-in to her new Salon 46 building won’t cause a delay of the December 1 opening.
The 45 Main Street building is under construction, and during Thanksgiving weekend, the back door was pushed or kicked in and close to $25,000 in construction tools were stolen.
Her husband Ed, who is helping the contractors when he can, noted the building was locked around 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
Ms. Hoszko said on Sunday morning, around 10:30, he called her to tell her about the break-in. She recalled he had gone into town to purchase savoury for the turkey stuffing, and decided to check out the building – which is when he discovered the break-in.
Const. Jeff Cassidy with the Renfrew Detachment of the OPP is investigating the incident.
Mr. Hoszko spoke to staff at the pawn shop in Pembroke, advising of the break-in, providing a list of tools that were stolen, in case they are brought to the business for pawning.
Ms. Hoszko posted on facebook about the incident, and has since received various reports of suspicious goings-on, including a black car parked near Shay-de-Lane Flower Shop about 3 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. Two men with back packs got out of the vehicle – but no one saw them return.
The couple is hopeful that a local business may have captured suspicious activity on camera.
She noted they are in contact with their insurance adjuster about the break-in, hoping they have coverage, since replacing the tools will be costly.
However, they have received messages from various people of tools that are for sale, so they can begin restocking their tool boxes.
